Preparing for Your EICR - Threefold Electrical
Electrician Introduction

Welcome to Your EICR!

Everything you need to know before we arrive, without the jargon.

We are carrying out an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) at your property. Our goal is to ensure your home is completely safe. Because electrical circuits can hide dangers even while working perfectly, we leave no stone unturned!

Tap the sections below to see what to expect on the day.

Testing Process

Time: A typical EICR takes 4-6 hours (sometimes a full day for larger properties).

The Process: We chat with you first! You know the property best, so let us know if you have any concerns. Then, we do a 100% visual inspection and safely remove about 20% of sockets/switches to check hidden connections. (We check more if we spot issues).

Power Outage: The power will be off for most of our visit. This means:

  • No WiFi or laptop charging (WFH warriors, plan ahead!).
  • Fridges/Freezers: Keep the doors closed, and your food will be perfectly safe.
  • Alarms: Hardwired alarms might beep on battery backup. Keep your reset codes handy!
Clear Access

To do our job safely, we need your help ensuring access.

  • Clear the way: Please ensure all sockets, switches, and the fuse box are accessible. We do not move heavy furniture or built-in white goods (and cannot accept liability for damage if asked to).
  • Limitations: If a socket is completely blocked by heavy furniture, it gets marked as a "limitation" on the certificate, which means it couldn't be tested.
  • Unplug Sensitive Tech: We use high-voltage tests that can damage electronics. Please unplug TVs, PCs, routers, and phone chargers before we arrive.
Results

If we spot minor issues, we'll try to fix them right there! For everything else, we use a standard coding system on your report:

Pass (Satisfactory): No issues found. Your electrical installation is safe, compliant, and good to go!
C3 (Improvement Recommended): Safe, but doesn't meet the newest regulations. (Satisfactory)
C2 (Potentially Dangerous): Urgent action required to make safe. (Unsatisfactory)
C1 (Danger Present): Immediate risk of injury. Needs sorting right now. (Unsatisfactory)
FI (Further Investigation): Updated Guidance! An 'FI' code does not automatically mean your report is unsatisfactory anymore. It simply means we spotted something unusual that requires deeper investigation, which *may* reveal a hidden safety issue later.

Smoke Alarms

Did you know smoke alarms expire? They can stop working without you realizing. We can test them and issue a separate safety certificate during our visit.

PAT Testing (Appliances)

If landlords provide appliances (fridges, ovens), we can PAT test them to prove safe upkeep. It's also great for high-risk handheld metal items like kettles! Extension leads should be tested or replaced every 3 years.
*New items with a genuine CE mark from reputable suppliers don't need immediate testing.
